The Macallan Amber - 1824 Series

Amber is part of The Macallan's new no age statement range of Speyside single malts, which concentrates on colour. The theory is that by using 100% sherry casks and natural colour, the darker the whisky, the older and more complex.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Soft aromatic vanilla, lemon and barley with hints of ginger. Milk chocolate buttons and hints of Sun-Maid Raisins.

    Palate

Surprisingly thick and fruity compared to the nose. Golden sultanas, dates, apple peelings and a dusting of cinnamon. Cereal notes on the mid-palate, joined by mince pies with crumbly shortbread.

    Finish

Fragrant oak finish, with the mince pie notes lingering.

    Overall

The second level in the 1824 Series, after the more citrus-led Gold.

    Try something else

They have stayed too far away from their signature tastes on this one. Don't waste your time.

    Macallan amber

Worst whisky ív had this year just finishing a Glendronach 12 a lovely dram got Macallan Amber for Christmas it's a tasteless watery bland young whisky compared to the Glendronach I've given it away and will get another Glendronach 12

    Perplexing

I gave it a 6 because the nose is euphoric, but the palate and finish is the opposite. The natural deep color is a nice feature but the taste is so watery that although you could easily just pass it off as "smooth", It's rather bland to me. On the other hand it's a 40 percent whisky that tastes lighter than most wines at less than 20 percent so to some that might be worth the price...Almost an accomplishment really. I mean overall it's pleasant. Nothing bad going on, just more to be desired mostly in the finish. It doesn't linger. Yeah sniffing this the nose is almost worth it though.
