The Macallan Amber - 1824 Series

Amber is part of The Macallan's new no age statement range of Speyside single malts, which concentrates on colour. The theory is that by using 100% sherry casks and natural colour, the darker the whisky, the older and more complex.

This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Soft aromatic vanilla, lemon and barley with hints of ginger. Milk chocolate buttons and hints of Sun-Maid Raisins.

    Palate

Surprisingly thick and fruity compared to the nose. Golden sultanas, dates, apple peelings and a dusting of cinnamon. Cereal notes on the mid-palate, joined by mince pies with crumbly shortbread.

    Finish

Fragrant oak finish, with the mince pie notes lingering.

    Overall

The second level in the 1824 Series, after the more citrus-led Gold.

    Nope.

Nose is not bad, but that solventy finish. Nope. Try something else.

Absolutely ruining a brand -- just awful

Why are you doing away with the ages? Such a bad idea. Macallan 12 and 18 are a staples on my bar -- I'm offended that you would water down your brand.

    Ian Johnston Dec 28, 2017

You’ll cry when the bottle empties.

My wife and I have tried a bottle of Siena and Amber. While the Siena is more expensive and more complex we prefer the Amber for that special after work moment. It is lucious in its wash on the tongue and less challenging to pallet. Maybe we we aged aficionados we might have more sophisticated perceptions but for our money the Amber is God’s gift to Scotch drinkers.

    About the right price range

Just above average, easy to drink and likeable.

    Colin Oct 17, 2017

Nasty....Just Nasty! Had so much better £20 Malts from Supermarkets

Lemon drizzle cake on the nose, intense mid palette mouth burn continuing for a long time, despite being 40% vol, delivers a cask strength mouth burn. Adding water suppresses the burn, but gives a weak, watery mouth feel consistent with a £20 supermarket malt. Used a Master of Malt 'Drinks by the Dram' taste tester for review; beginning to now regret buying 2 bottles during Amazon lightning deals offer
