Released as part of Macallan’s ever-wonderful Sherry Oak range comes this 12 Year Old. It has spent its entire maturation in sherry-seasoned oak casks from Jerez, and is bottled at 40% ABV after its 12 years of ageing. It’s full of all those hallmark dried fruit and marmalade notes we’ve come to know and love from a sherried Macallan.
Crisp and sweet. There are notes of sultanas and fresh apple blossom. There is a defined floral note followed by Sherry hints. Calvados emerges with a tropical fruit note and golden syrup.
Medium-body and quite firm. There are notes of hot pastries and marmalade, sultanas and peels with a developing sweetness from the barley sugar.
Good length with a solid oaked note
Fantastic Scotch, sipped immediately after pouring I found it to be a bit intense, but even then the flavours couldn't be ignored. Left to air for a few minutes this really becomes a fantastic drink. Warming but comforting, the sherry flavours soften the edges associated with whiskies and make this a very enjoyable tipple. Just a shame it's so expensive otherwise I'd drink this regularly. It'll be going on the Christmas list.
Nice drop of Malt. Great service. Many thanks Denis
A lovely dram. Perhaps a touch too sweet on my palate, but that’s quite subjective. Subversively smooth and delicious caramel notes.
A superb whisky which, whilst not quite matching the old school bottlings to be had in the 80’s and 90’s, continues a fine tradition of sherry cask maturation from one of the greatest distilleries fed by the River Spey.
I must admit when I first popped the cork on this one I was not blown away. The nose is wonderful , however the palate always left me underwhelmed.. Roll on 12 months and this has been sat on the shelf approx. 2/3rds full and the taste has somewhat changed since I last sampled it. Plenty of vanilla, sherried dried fruits on hand but unfortunately no smoke (I have been on Ardbeg so may have dumbed down my palate). Still an overall delicate whisky as opposed to others on the market and would only buy again at a discounted price. For over £70 I would prefer to buy an Ancoc 18 or Glendronach 15. I think I paid about £50 but still think there are much more interesting and complex drams out There..
