The 12 year old expression from The Macallan Fine Oak Range, matured in a selection of American and European oak casks seasoned with sherry, as well as American oak casks seasoned with bourbon.
This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!
Nectarines, sugared almonds and vanilla toffee. Spicy oak and golden malt lend a good balance to the sweet opening notes.
Good sherried malt in here, rich and sweet with plump raisins. Developing orange peel notes. Warm oak at the core.
Quite long with vanilla and sultana.
Very smooth. Good finish. It’s much better after you allow it to open up.
Good whisky, I feel quality here, sophisticated. I like this style of whisky. I found similarities with Glengoyne 12 on the nose and palate but not in the finish. Something after the burst until the end reminds me the Benromach Organic which is matured in american virgin oak. As in Benromach organic I feel that there is something to be released. But I prefer Glengoyne 12, also sophisticated and quality whisky, because is richer and don't have that sensation of hidden flavours, and the malt flavour is proeminent.
The 12y sherry cask is wonderful, but the 12y fine oak is just okay. At this price point (~$50), I'd rather go for something else. A very smooth malt, but that's all it's got going for it.
Just started on the fine oak range and have to say this 12 yo is stunning. Great on the nose and on the palate. Getting a bit pricey as it winds down but I'll be sure to have some of these locked away for future enjoyment
this whisky brand has never open for me. I don't say that is not a good quality but something is missing or i have tasted wrong ones. Nevertheless this a bottle is better than these new non-age statement bottles of this brand. Needs hint of water and time before enjoying.
