The Macallan
Scotland
Single Malt
A rich and well-balanced single malt from The Macallan, aged for 12 years in a mix of American and European Sherry oak casks. This maturation adds layers of vanilla, spice, and dried fruit, creating a classic Speyside whisky.
Here, the proportion of American oak ex-Sherry casks is higher than in the 12 Year Old Sherry Oak, but no ex-bourbon casks are used as they are in the 12 Year Old Fine Oak release.
Classic dried fruit territory, if less intense than the Sherry Oak expression. Aromatic butterscotch too.
Creamy and honeyed with some thick-cut marmalade, cinnamon and warm pastries.
Fruity with vanilla and sultana.
$53.24 - $383.36
I'm not a whisky specialist, but this whisky is basically sugar water without sugar. Yes, it has a nice fruity smell, and yes, some other tastes turn up whilst drinking. But this is watered down whisky made for mass consumption. Nothing wrong with that. But the price is just takin the p!ss!
I have purchased this whisky on a number of occasions. Individuals have their own preferences, and it would be horrific if we all liked the same. I find that the 12yo Macallan suits my palate very well - right from the time I take it into my mouth to the eventual finish. The details that you give are accurate and the product of a serious team of tasters - I only wish that I had the same ability! I put a limit on the price I will pay, and this falls well within that limit.
One of the smoothest whiskys I have ever tasted.
Wow, what a scotch this is. Most of my favourite scotches are peated but this is just incredible in a whole different way. Smooth and delicious, the kind of scotch I'd drink to celebrate.
Received this as a Christmas gift. Love the affordable macallans. Really smooth, like a soft caramel.
