    Single Malt

The Macallan 12 Year Old Double Cask

A rich and well-balanced single malt from The Macallan, aged for 12 years in a mix of American and European Sherry oak casks. This maturation adds layers of vanilla, spice, and dried fruit, creating a classic Speyside whisky.

Here, the proportion of American oak ex-Sherry casks is higher than in the 12 Year Old Sherry Oak, but no ex-bourbon casks are used as they are in the 12 Year Old Fine Oak release.

    • Region: Speyside, Scotland.
    • Maturation: American and European Sherry oak casks.
    • Flavour Profile: Rich honey, dried fruit, warm spice, oak.
    • Best Served: Neat, on the rocks, or in an Old FashionedCoffee

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Classic dried fruit territory, if less intense than the Sherry Oak expression. Aromatic butterscotch too.

    Palate

Creamy and honeyed with some thick-cut marmalade, cinnamon and warm pastries.

    Finish

    Fruity with vanilla and sultana.

    ☹️

Do you know, I do business with most of the whisky producers in Scotland and pretty much all whiskeys bottled in Scotland are filled , using my filling tubes. This, is quite frankly, a particularly disappointing so called Malt. I’ve really really tried to find its merits, but, in the final analysis , it drinks, as one previous correspondent articulated , it really drinks like a blended whiskey. In fact, if you look at the CV of the chap who owns it, it rather places the whole issue into perspective. If you really want to enjoy a thoroughly good malt, may I suggest Springbank.

Not bad whisky, terrible price. Will not buy again.

There is nothing wrong with this. It is quite light, with a shortish finish, but the house-style is there. As a 12 yo, you could do worse. And of course, better. I suspect those casks had been filled multiple times before they were put to work on the whisky I bought. The only real problem is that The Macallan are trying to be a "Premium", designer brand of whisky. They are not. As they desperately try to recoup their multimillion pound investment in the shortest possible time, they are charging much more for an inferior product. The Scottish Government HAS TO STEP IN and rescue this national treasure for future generations.

    A poor pour....

Just purchased this, my first Macallan in 20 years... The last 2 I had were a 10 and 18, both grand. This is light and wishy-washy. Them flavours are there, but they last no time at all, there’s just no body at all. If you’re new to whisky (or not), buy something more enjoyable, like a Glen Morangie or a Glen Scotia. In fact, Monkey Shoulder is better than this. Pure example of trading off a respected name. But respect only goes so far. I won’t buy “The” Macallan for another 20 years. At least.

    its a nice drop

lovely creamy honey in mouth and spices in the finish here... american oak is prevalent i think..a little sherry too in there but well disguised as dried fruit. spicier than the sherry cask, and in my opinion not quite as good for my tastes. still. its a nice drop. struth
