A limited edition bottling of The One from The Lakes Distillery, which has enjoyed a finishing period in a combination of first-fill Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez casks, imparting oodles of dried fruit notes, with a good emphasis on spicy Spanish oak. As ever, the blend is brilliantly crafted with the distillery's own single malt alongside whiskies from across the British Isles.
Sultana and ginger, with underlying touches of earthy peat.
Chocolatey at first, before dates, nutty barley and cracked black pepper appear. A hint of cask char, too.
Lasting vanilla and sandalwood.
As always, well done Lakes for releasing their stuff with no added colouring and non-chill filtration! The Spanish oak plays a great part in this whisky. The nose will have you believing it’s just another Sherry finish, with a chocolate and dried fruits. The palate is great, the Spanish oak just tastes amazing with the PX casks being more dominant which makes it more delicate than you would think. There is a gentle ash smoke right underneath which is really well balanced. Makes me wonder if it’s blended with Jura for that delicate smoke. Finish is warm and clean with the smoke carrying the finish. Excellently balanced and the Spanish oak was a great call!
Sherry cask finished whiskies are not top of my favourites list as I prefer plenty of smoke and peat but happy to try anything. This whisky was a surprise and not what I expected. The smoky undertone of charred wood really comes through but balances well with the more typical sherry fruitiness to give something just that little bit different. Lovely.
This is an interesting combination. While I expected a slightly more sweeter taste from the sherry instead you get a very dry smokey one. Definitely one of the stronger (in drinking sensation) I've tried. Do I think it's nice though? ..takes a few to get used to its heavy smokiness but otherwise yeah it's a good tipple!
An excellent limited edition from the Lakes Distillery, using Pedro Ximénez casks, this whisky gives you a beautifully smooth sherry cask undertone with peppery, dried fruit and ginger giving you a really pleasant and easy drinking whisky - Its a winner!
