It's the fifth release in The Lakes Whiskymaker's Reserve series, offering up a spectacular taste of excellent English single malt. Decidedly sherried in style, with a refined elegance to it, this expression is most marvellous indeed. It was drawn from a combination of Pedro Ximénez sherry, Oloroso sherry, and red wine casks, and has been bottled up at 52% ABV. Delish!
Cherry Bakewells, dried fruit, old oak furniture, and a touch of pecan.
Coffee cake, cinnamon, rich red wine, a hint of tangy tropical fruit giving it some lift.
Toasted brown sugar and cassia, plus mahogany warmth lasting.
Super and sensational, creamy in the mouth, sweet taste of dried fruits, bittersweet of sugary citrus orange peel and nicely warming spices of nutmeg and cinnamon which given a medium long finish. After the third drinks in the week the taste hanging much longer than expected.
Really good whisky. Sherry bomb and smooth like silk. Better than Macallan estate reserve
Deep dark caramel in the glass, it's a real glass clinger. The aroma is heady and rich, an absolute sherry bomb. The first thing that springs to mind is sticky toffee pudding, a little nuttiness and lashings of treacle and golden syrup. Also getting a little bitterness of dark chocolate, espresso coffee and maraschino cherries in syrup in there, a wonderful nose for sure. In the mouth it's again thick and oily in texture. The red fruits from the wine casks show up in full now, deep berries combined with that toffee pudding sensation - then that deep coffee cake comes back in with even more nuttiness. Absolute flavour beast this one. The finish is deep, and this is where the only real hint of spice comes through, a little black pepper and ginger tingle on your tongue at the end, but that ongoing thick toffee remains coated in brown sugar and a really elegant creamy feel. A splash of water to open this fella up brings out that creamy nuttiness on the nose, and even more of that coffee/chocolate. Everything is the mouth is still there from before but now softened. This whisky is a decadent treat, a true dessert whisky in every sense. If this is my first trip to flavour country with The Lakes Distillery, I cetainly hope it will not be my last. Simply sensational.
This whisky is more delious than Macallan estate reserve. Really suprising!. Good value to buy.
