From the Kaikyo Distilley comes Hatozaki Pure Malt, made with 100% malt whiskies, distilled largely (if not entirely?) in Scotland, and further aged in Japan. The spirit is amtured in a trio of cask types - bourbon, sherry and Mizunara casks. It's named after the nearby Hatozaki lighthouse, which is the oldest stone lighthouse in Japan.
Aromas of dried fruit, sweet malt, a drizzle of honey, aromatic incense and sandalwood.
Rich and complex with a good helping of malt, aromatic spices, dried fruit and toasted cereal notes, with a slightly creamy vanilla undertone.
Delicately smoky and sweet honey on the finish, with lingering cigar box.
The lack of color hides a complex nose. The tastes however is fair but dissapoints the plums we smell and gives way to a more harsh grain finish. But not bad.
Something different. The nose is interesting, sweet and aromatic. Dry, light and sweet on the palate. A lingering finish with, I’d say, traces of very delicate ashiness rather than smokiness. A very nice offering.
Doesn’t need water, delightfully smooth, honey textured, no harshness. My first Japanese and a real delight.
Not so bad. Delicate, floral, toffee and berries to taste. Some sharpness can be found. When you add a splash of water, the whiskey opens up like a flower. Perfect avec with afternoon cup of coffee.
This is something new, tastes very original and unique. If your looking for a new experience, this is definitely it, I'm glad I got this bottle it's certainly something every gastronaut should try, but not something I'd buy again. For me smokiness is the thing, this has none of it. Instead it offers a fresh taste of honey citrus and grape. Really feels like drinking wine! This is definitely something to try out on the rocks or chilled. Result is smooth, with no taste of alcohol, which is a good sign of a great whiskey. Definitely recommended.
