Originally released as part of Glenlivet's Travel Retail market offering, the Triple Cask Matured Distiller's Reserve expression brings together whisky matured in three different types of cask - traditional casks, American white oak casks and ex-sherry casks. Wonderfully well balanced stuff.
Honeycomb, whiffs of sherried peels and dried fruit, polished oak, slightly earthy and herbal as it develops in the glass.
Chewy dates, almond flakes, toasted coconut, Shredded Wheat in milk topped with brown sugar, good coffee.
More dates, now paired with fudge and a slight waft of vegetal smoke.
Do not understand the gold medal it got years ago. All I tasted was alcohol and bitterness. I can only assume that triple cask means very old washed out casks + extremely old washed out casks + left over casks others rejected. Sorry for the sarcasm. Sadly this was the very first whisky I ever bought that ended up on the kitchen sink.
Nose: sweet honey, dried fruit Palate: dried fruit sweetness, orange tint. Finish: cherry sweetness, dry fruit and slight green apple. Over all that's awesome. Got a bottle more in my range.
I am a huge fan of triple amd double cask single malts, and this id by far my favourite, and as every glass passes it surprisingly becomes more complex and somehow simultaneously the individual flavours become clearer to the taste
Just love it. Can taste the woods, plus earthy flavor capped by slightly fruity aftertaste. Thought I loved Dimple 18 year, but Glenlivet Triple Cask just can't be matched!
I usually like a whisky with slightly more of a bite, but this is a pleasant drink. Affordable, enjoyable, a good addition for when i feel like a mild palette.
