The Glenlivet
Scotland
Single Malt
A tropical expression from The Glenlivet, for Caribbean Reserve a portion of the whisky was finished in casks which previously held Caribbean rum. The distillery folks suggest adding a splash of coconut water, though we reckon a malty twist on a Mai Tai is on the cards!
Honeyed orchard fruit, tinned pear and fried banana.
Ripe tropical fruit and brown sugar, along with cinnamon pastries.
Pineapple upside down cake.
I’m a rum drinker who likes whisky and to be fair this is not unpleasant as a smooth drink in its own right. Might not be a whisky purists tipple but as an interesting crossover over its worth a try.
It tastes nothing like the description - no flavours of tropical fruit or pastries... And definitely no upside down cake. Finish is harsh.
One of the worse malts I’ve tasted.
I'll be honest, I've not been a fan of Glenlivet compare to what else is out there, but thought I'd give them another go with this rum cask finish. I get alot of honeydew melon and some other notes. But I'm still not overly impressed. It's a very easy, mellow drinking whisky. Breakfast whisky as some would say. I feel like this could have been so much more if the abv was a few % more, 43 or 46% to give the mellow notes a kick of spice. Again, not my tipple, but I'll be sure to try whatever else they venture into in a few years time. You know, for curiosity... Would have got 2 stars, but gave the extra half for being on offer. Marketed well. It fooled me.
A real crowd pleaser! Don’t be put off by any mediocre reviews of this fine expression from The Glenlivet. Smooth, sweet on the nose and an easy light finish with the rum and caramel coming through.
