The Glenlivet
Scotland
Single Malt
A tropical expression from The Glenlivet, for Caribbean Reserve a portion of the whisky was finished in casks which previously held Caribbean rum. The distillery folks suggest adding a splash of coconut water, though we reckon a malty twist on a Mai Tai is on the cards!
Honeyed orchard fruit, tinned pear and fried banana.
Ripe tropical fruit and brown sugar, along with cinnamon pastries.
Pineapple upside down cake.
Harsh taste, strong aroma of alcohol as in meths! If your hoping for something akin to The Balvenie Caribbean Cask your going to be sorely disappointed!
Got bought a bottle as a present. Overly smooth with an manufactured sweetness which leads to a lingering aftertaste. Needs a mixer. Really not good at all.
Good flavour, with a hint of Caribbean as described
Didn't think I'd see this in Australia - &, at a great value price. Caribbean Rum Cask finish! but .. [only a small portion]! Great presentation (Perfect Gift) - muscat / sherry in colour. Holds well around the glass. Easy drinking, extremely smooth Glenlivet where the Rum, sweetened things up a little in a good way without overwhelming! Nose: Nice, fruity & very sweet nose with a fresh new wood?. Taste: Very light, some citrus for me, more fruits (melon/berries) Finish: Quite short to medium - a little drying & nutty, typical of a basic "reserve" NAS drop; but nothing unpleasant. Fruits hang in - Easy sipper, great value. Nothing negative from me, but a little mundane. Result 79 8/10 26/30 23/30 22/30
Average a best. Similar to founders reserve, which is also average. Decent sipper but Aberlour 12 all day long if you're spending this kind of money.
