Excellent 12 year old single malt from the Glenlivet Distillery in Speyside, which enjoys its maturation in both European and American oak casks. It's an immensely popular expression which disappeared from shelves in 2015, but has since returned! A great example of the character of Glenlivet's whisky, boasting a bounty of orchard fruit, fragrant florals and honeyed malt notes carried on a creamy mouth feel.
Apricot, pineapple, greengages, citrus blossom and toasted teacake.
Buttery and vanilla-rich, though still packing all the bright fruit notes from the nose.
A soft crackle of oaky spice and malt, plus a hint of red apple juiciness.
Very good, very fruity, but i still prefer the 18….
I prefer this over aberlour 12, lately. I have had about 20 of old yellow bottles, and about 5 this blue ones. This is a sipper. Old ones were better. I always have a 10-20 bottle rotation, so I really dont give a flying F, If I have a lesser batch. Way better than chivas 12. No comp to jack or beam, any beam for that matter, I always have few better ones in a rotation, or walker black 12. This is miles better. But have to be honest, I do prefer cognacs in this price range. I do. But glenlivet 12 will always be in my rotation, my baby, until I depart from this planet. Sure, macallan 12, jack SB, all 4 famous xo cognacs tops it, but others, well they really dont.
This is probably the fruitiest tasting whisky I have experienced to date. There was a big kick of pear-drop aroma, and taste, on first acquaintance. This lessened as the level in the bottle went down, with slightly different fruit flavours coming to prominence. The last few drams in the bottle tasted distinctly of ‘apple’ . I am not sure whether all whisky aficionados would consider this variance between first and last dram to be a good thing, but I was thoroughly entertained by this bottle of whisky and enjoyed it very much.
Has exactly what it says in the MoM description. Very fruity with vanilla but it’s lacks....something. The finish doesn’t last long and it doesn’t seem to be as creamy as the founders reserve. Give it a go but don’t expect big things.
Smooth fruity whisky with a character. Taste gets better few days after opening the bottle. One of my favourite during summer.
