Reviews for The Glenlivet 12 Year Old - Pre 2014
Everything I wanted in a sipper.
I love it. I've tried "stronger " scotches and they were just a bit too smokey for me. I can see how as time goes on I might build a taste for them but for now this is perfect for me.

intro malt
This is good for introducing folks to malts. On the other hand it was Margaret thatchers favourite nightcap, so if you want a free dram in Scotland or north england, wait until someone orders a Glenlivet in the pub, then tap them on the shoulder and say 'that's thatchers favourite'! They will walk away and leave you with the drink!

A decent one for the price
I tried this on a friend's recommendation. It is smooth and easy to drink, the price is right but I do prefer a more peaty taste.
I am relatively new to Scotch but am very much enjoying the new experience.

For unpeated lovers
I'm relatively new to whisky, although I've tried many in bars or from other whisky-lover friends I know.
I tend not to like much strong peaty ones like Bowmore, Oban, Laphroig, Ardbeg (beware I appreciate them, but I don't plan to own a bottle of them); although I like Talisker (which is peaty but salt/iodum soften it), I'm more into Glenmorangie (Lasanta above all), or mid-peated but very structured ones like Caol Ila.
This.. this is different. Basically unpeated, it overwhelms you with fruit and almond tastes, it's rather creamy and smooth without any kind of burn. I like it a lot; I bought it for 26€, at the same price imho there's no competition from things such as a JW Black Label or other mid-low priced producers like Chivas and such.
If you love peat, you probably won't like it, but if you are looking for a good scotch for a good price it's a very nice choice, especially for a beginner like me. Next? I need a Glenmorangie bottle :D
