The second addition to The Original Stories series from The Glenlivet! This expression follows The Glenlivet 12 Year Old - Illicit Still, and celebrates the next chapter in the history of the distillery's founder George Smith. After years of illicit distilling, Smith became one of the first to gain a license to legally distill Scotch following the passing of the 1823 Excise Act. Matured for 12 years in a combination of American and European oak, we reckon he'd be rather proud of this splendid Speysider.
Fresh apricot and summer fruits with a drizzle of honey and delicate dustings of spice.
The honeyed sweetness continues on the palate, joined by buttery oak and creamy vanilla. Nutty malt rests comfortably at the core.
Warming cinnamon, a touch of root ginger, and anise arrive, though rich caramel remains.

I have been a fan of THE Glenlivet for over half a Century, and regretted the reduction from 80 proof to 70 for the 12 YO, it just lost a lot of character. I still have 1 bottle of the G&M Red Lion 100 proof and 2 or 3 Glenlivet “18”s from the 90s (75/43 abv if memory serves) So I had to try this 48 abv 12 Yo. Yes good- some of the old character restored. How about bringing back a 43 or 46 12 Yo Glenlivet ?
