First revealed towards the end of 2014, the Founder's Reserve single malt Scotch whisky is now available in the UK and will be replacing The Glenlivet 12 year old in many of the mature markets despite initial indications that it would sit beside it, broadening the entry-level options. Named in tribute to distillery founder George Smith, it's packaged in Georgian blue.
Some dates then what at first appears to be a touch of salinity, but is better described as a slightly sharp plum and apricot wine note. There's orange zest, toffee, hints of struck match and chocolate raisins, but before this starts to sound 'Sherried' there's also pear drops, a dusting of sweet cinnamon, honeysuckle and sweet pea.
Fruity, then sweet, more toffee, a touch of anise, then into milk chocolate Flakes, banoffee pie and apple turnovers.
Creamy toffee to the fore now, a little oak and sweet barley sugar warmth too. Milk chocolate raisins linger.
Perhaps a little sweet, but it would work well with ice where the sweetness would be slightly suppressed - and before you shudder with disgust, Alan Winchester said that he liked his with a little ice sometimes too. And if it's good enough for the Master Distiller...

Sorry to say been drinking Glenlivet for years give this one a miss its all wrong
Here in Quebec (Canada), scotch is way out of reach. A good bottle is more than 60 Euros. Just a comparison, the Glenlivet 18 years old, which is listed here at 48 Euros, is 87 Euros. So a scotch, a Glenlivet, for 29 Euros (same price here)? Got to try. My first thoughts were that I lost my money. But then, I remembered an old friend saying that putting just a bit of water on a scotch makes all the flavors come alive. That's it : a bit of water and now I can enjoy a pretty good scotch every day.
It has its own flavour...on a clean palate, but thats about all. If this product is to be sold along side the 12 year, as a cheaper substitute, then fine. But if its meant to replace the 12 year (or not offered), these guys are out of their minds! lol Theres no way Im spending my hard earned dollars on a mediocre product, thats only a few dollars cheaper then the 12 year old. If the 12 is not offered in my country, I ll simply switch to something else...not worth the price! And for Glenlivet.....just remember the "New Coke" experiment...
At first i was really disappointed by this. I am new to scotch, just bought 3 bottles (GF12 an GM10 also). This NAS was a lot worse then the other two. But if you add a little water, it becomes quite a good scotch (as far as i know). The differce is huge, so try it!
No depth what so ever I was disappointed and quite frankly let down by what as always been a reliable quaffing stalwart. Normally I would not put ice any where near a decent malt...put ice in this one!!
