First revealed towards the end of 2014, the Founder's Reserve single malt Scotch whisky is now available in the UK and will be replacing The Glenlivet 12 year old in many of the mature markets despite initial indications that it would sit beside it, broadening the entry-level options. Named in tribute to distillery founder George Smith, it's packaged in Georgian blue.
Some dates then what at first appears to be a touch of salinity, but is better described as a slightly sharp plum and apricot wine note. There's orange zest, toffee, hints of struck match and chocolate raisins, but before this starts to sound 'Sherried' there's also pear drops, a dusting of sweet cinnamon, honeysuckle and sweet pea.
Fruity, then sweet, more toffee, a touch of anise, then into milk chocolate Flakes, banoffee pie and apple turnovers.
Creamy toffee to the fore now, a little oak and sweet barley sugar warmth too. Milk chocolate raisins linger.
Perhaps a little sweet, but it would work well with ice where the sweetness would be slightly suppressed - and before you shudder with disgust, Alan Winchester said that he liked his with a little ice sometimes too. And if it's good enough for the Master Distiller...

Great for the price
Pleasantly surprised when I bought this on special at the local. Somewhat sweeter than I usually prefer, but easy to drink with some complexity, I tasted grains and orange fruit predominantly, a little bit of a grassy finish. Made me think of me of Nant homestead crossed with Glenmorangie original. Probably not for an introduction to whisky, but certainly something to try as your palate develops. Seems a lot of low point reviews in comparison to other Glenlivet offerings, which I haven't tried. For the price, this was a good buy and enjoyable for me, as a novice. Personally I like it neat, at 40% abv it's smooth, and I didn't think stood up well with dilution. Recommend letting it breathe a little in your glass.
Glenlivit 12yr. has been my favorite scotch, sad to see it go. I picked up the founders reserve thinking it was a step up from the 12yr since it cost a few bucks more. I was sorely disappointed. It hits the pallet with a very distinguished bitter bite that is in stark contradiction to the mellow smoothness of the 12yr. There is no redemption in the finish either. Sorry to see the 12yr go and I will definitely not be purchasing the founders reserve again. Guess I will have to find a new favorite. Too bad.
Very Very good. Has a slight sweetness that I found to be a nice change. I will be trying the 15 tear old next and then onto the 12 tear old and finally the 12 year old. I received this combo for Christmas this year.
Ok estamos hablando de un whisky de menos de Us 35 es suave afrutado y con un final muy agradable, para los que no nos gusta la turba es perfecto!!
