First revealed towards the end of 2014, the Founder's Reserve single malt Scotch whisky is now available in the UK and will be replacing The Glenlivet 12 year old in many of the mature markets despite initial indications that it would sit beside it, broadening the entry-level options. Named in tribute to distillery founder George Smith, it's packaged in Georgian blue.
Some dates then what at first appears to be a touch of salinity, but is better described as a slightly sharp plum and apricot wine note. There's orange zest, toffee, hints of struck match and chocolate raisins, but before this starts to sound 'Sherried' there's also pear drops, a dusting of sweet cinnamon, honeysuckle and sweet pea.
Fruity, then sweet, more toffee, a touch of anise, then into milk chocolate Flakes, banoffee pie and apple turnovers.
Creamy toffee to the fore now, a little oak and sweet barley sugar warmth too. Milk chocolate raisins linger.
Perhaps a little sweet, but it would work well with ice where the sweetness would be slightly suppressed - and before you shudder with disgust, Alan Winchester said that he liked his with a little ice sometimes too. And if it's good enough for the Master Distiller...
Very disappointed for what I paid I would get 2 decent bottles of wine. Tastes very artificial . The only one upside is that alcohol is almost unnoticeable which is a good thing but other than that is pretty rubbish. Not as bad as Jameson ( one of the worst famous blend I have ever drunk I am sure you agree with that) that's why I have given 1 ? not a half
The amount of people on here who are far too snobby about a drink we all enjoy is shocking- you’d think they had any experience making a whisky! The “entry level” comments always amuse me ?. As if there’s some ranking to personal taste for alcohol. - Guinness, a great entry level stout- never gets said. Is it to my taste like an Islay single cask cask strength drunk out of a glencairn glass with 3 drops of water from a dropper. No. But it was. A present, you can spend far far more for a sweet speyside dram that in a blind tasting most of the 1* reviews would not be able to distinguish. I sip it neat, or with a mixer. Buy it, enjoy it. It’s scotch single malt whisky.
My second review of this whiskey. Nothing has changed, sadly. Don't give them your money, buy a fish & chip instead.
The Glenlivet Founder's Reserve is exceptionally well-balanced and smooth single malt - value for money.
One of the best scotch I have ever tried, starting from noise to finish loved its every characteristic. The Nose is absolutely stunning which is soft & tempting. The palate is sweet with a hint of some species which tastes perfect...! Finish can't be perfect then this smooth, soft and little bit of sweetness.
