The Glenlivet
Scotland
Single Malt
This 15 year old expression from The Glenlivet, was matured in French Limousin Oak casks. Limousin Oak is a popular choice for maturation of Cognac.
The nose is rich and oaked. There are notes of chewy resinous wood with a well-balanced acidity. Fudge and Madeira with apple crumble with calvados.
The palate is full and rich with winter spice; cinnamon and cloves, thick oak with developing aridity.
The finish is long and dry with a peppery note.
I really like this scotch smooth and the Finnish is long and great tasting !!
Very good
Very smooth
Smooth if you love Scotch!
Like many I've tried other Glenlivets but not the 15. Fifteen years is an awkward age for a malt: halfway between the affordable, "honest" 12 and the indulgent, full-bodied 18. For some perspective, my affordable drams are Singleton 12, Royal Lochnagar 12 or even Dewar's Ancestor's "True Scotch" 12 which I heartily recommend. After a couple of doubles in a proper glass, I find the Glenlivet 15 too sweet, too one-dimensional with no contrasting 'bite' to tingle the cheeks. It almost feels like an 18 with the heart ripped out or a Deluxe whiskey.
