Single Malt

A tremendous single malt, joining The English collection from The English Distillery. This gently smoked expression was distilled in February 2012 and allowed to mature in sherry hogsheads, bringing some glorious soft spice with a sweet and smoky finish. Limited to 1,800 bottles, they're rather pleasing to the eye with an elegant decanter style design.
Dried fruits and boozy cherries, rich oak and a touch of liquorice.
Creamy malt, unctuous with sweet spice, and soft smoke, and woody notes of anise and drying oak.
Sweet toffee and nutty syrup, lingering dry smoked oak, and cakey spice.

I am used to peated whiskies from the Ardbeg stable, but I had a tasting day at the English Whisky distillery and this one came out on top for me. Not as peaty as the Uigeadail but the sherry finish really comes through, sweet and fruity with a lot of body. Nearly at the end of my first bottle now and will very much buy another then another. The Uigeadail and this Sherry Hogshed are my most cherished and favourite tipple.
Thin and lacking any real complexity. No creaminess on the palate whatsoever. When reading the tasting notes on here and on the bottle labelling this completely falls flat and fails to deliver any real substance. Not a terribly bad single malt. But nowhere near as good as your expecting. Much better whiskys out there from England.
