The Character of Islay Whisky Company
Single Malt
From The Character of Islay Whisky Company comes a mysterious Islay single malt that goes by the name Aerolite Lyndsay. The peaty whisky has been sourced from an undisclosed distillery on the island, though we have been told that the liquid was aged for 10 years in a mixture of bourbon barrels and Spanish oak sherry quarter casks, which sounds thoroughly delicious. It's bottled without any additional colouring, or any of that chill-filtration, too.
Oh, and the name? If you havn't Countdown-ed it out already, Aerolite Lyndsay is in fact an anagram of the words ‘ten year old Islay’! See what they did there? Very nifty.
Lots of maritime peat, with notes of iodine intertwined with honey sweetness, paprika, salted caramel and old bookshelves.
Smoke returns alongside mint dark chocolate, espresso and new leather, with honey and soy sauce mixed together.
Boiled mint sweeties, liquorice allsorts, bonfire smoke and toffee penny, with a pinch of salt.
Perfectly balanced Islay, really really nice stuff.
If you do your research, you'll find that this is bottled by Atom Supplies which you'll notice if anyone has ordered from MoM before, is Atom Supplies... My wife bought me this to celebrate an exam I recently passed. I don't think I've disliked a Islay yet, but I'm on the fence with this one. I've had some really cheap islays which have been fantastic as I enjoy the younger, harsh profile they give. At the price point there is much better out there in my opinion (and it is only mine). I'm around half way through the bottle and I probably need to let it breathe before returning to it, hopefully it mellows a bit more. There's peat smoke and there's some sherried richness but apart from that there's not much going on for me. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad whisky, I think it's one I'd skip after this bottle and not return.
I have to say it was for me a very distinctive taste, not some thing I would go back to .
If you’ve only drank sweet spays for Most of your scotch career (10 years ish) as I did and hated peaty ones. This WILL turn you. It’s lovely, sweet. Smokey and nutty and I’m hooked for life. I’ve been told I’m now on the journey???
Cracking drop , really happy i went for this, not over complex - for the time served whisky drinker it may not have the range but i though it was avery easy to drink whisky
