A truly extraordinary award-winning series continues - behold, Batch 6 of the Lost Distilleries Blend. This spectacular blended Scotch whisky is produced solely using whiskies from some of the most renowned, though sadly closed, Scottish distilleries and the result is a dram that undoubtedly lives up to their lofty legacies.
Batch 6 features malt whiskies from Mosstowie, Port Ellen, Glenisla, Imperial, Caperdonich, Glen Mhor and Brora, and grain whiskies from Port Dundas. All are ennobled and celebrated in their own right, with surviving stocks of their spirit becoming scarcer year on year. The Lost Distilleries Blend honours these gone-but-not-forgotten greats with impeccable balance and a sublime flavour profile worthy of their names.
This is a limited release of 534 bottles.
A little green apple and then manuka honey lead the way, with the depth of this blend soon becoming apparent. Grassy sand dunes, lemon, dried coconut and papaya develop, adding complexity to the bag of gorgeous vanilla fudge you now hold in your hand.
Toffee apples and chamois leather. A drop of water here reveals thicker, chewy toffees, great mouthfeel, a generous sprinkling of nutmeg and a little cinnamon alongside praline, which becomes nut toffee or peanut crunch towards the tail.
Soft, slightly tannic, nutty oak and a hint of dignified smoke. Salted toffee too, that's almost vaguely coastal.
This is very yummy whisky indeed. Created exclusively with whiskies from now-closed distilleries, it's also a piece of history. A very yummy piece of history.

Incredibly smooth but also complex. Love this.
I just got this in my Day 24 Advent Calendar....its amazing....
The most expensive whisky I've tried yet, and on christmas eve, makes it something special :) find it very smooth and easy going, no watering needed. Cinnamon and vanilla comes through and the finish is slightly peaty.
So am not much of a whisky drinker but was able to try some of my fiance's advent sample. On the nose you get waves of honey and lemons. Upon tasting it I had strong notes of nuts along with some toffee and a hint of apples. On the finish I was still getting a good dose of those nut notes along with some warmth gained from the respectable 49% ABV. I did find that adding a little bit of water helped release the flavours. Overall a very tasty whisky although not sure I'd pay this much for it
The nose immediately tells that this is special - as my 2 year old put it when having a sniff: 'yummy!' The scent of honey is the principal note, but cinnamon, rosewater, sherry, and vanilla are all there. The palate is very chewy, with toffee, clementine, almond, fennel, and smoked meat. The finish is a little quicker than I expected with peppermint, black pepper, and some blackcurrant cough syrup. It's the most complex whisky I've ever tried, and to my taste tops Glenfarclas 40 (my previous favourite).
