The Antiquary
Scotland
Blended
A rounded, smooth blend, the Antiquary 12 year old is a great whisky which Jim Murray awarded an incredible 92 points to in his 2013 Whisky Bible.
The nose is light and well-balanced. There are notes of malted barley and honey, a touch of spice and fresh fruit salad. The palate is of medium-body with notes of calvados and barley, a touch of honey and mixed peels and notes of oak. The finish is quite long with oak and caramel.
A great tasting whisky for the money very smooth and well balanced and a great looking bottle
Full rounded whisky by distillers from originally vat 69 used to work for them this is a tried tested and trusted malt first produced in 1974/1975.
In my opinion the best deluxe blend on the market
Very good blended scotch. Evenly balanced sweetness, salt and bitterness. Peaty, smokey start, peat, nuts, citrus on the aftertaste. It is complex, lots of different notes and it will taste a lot better with couple of drops of water and some resting time in the glass (I usually leave mine for about 10-15 min). Overall I would suggest this to everyone who likes their beverages a bit more complex and not too sweet. Also it would work great as an introduction to peaty whiskies. This blend compares and beats many well aged single malts on the market. And the price is just too sweet not to get it.
This is one of the most interesting blends I've tasted. I would probably not have chosen this bottle in the store, but I was so lucky as to get the remainder of a bottle from a tasting. Tasting notes given by others so I'll add nothing new. It's really pleasant to sniff and sip. Smooth and rich and with a good finish. A wee bit water sweetens it up a tad. This also does very well in an Old Fashioned.
