The Antiquary
Scotland
Blended
A rounded, smooth blend, the Antiquary 12 year old is a great whisky which Jim Murray awarded an incredible 92 points to in his 2013 Whisky Bible.
The nose is light and well-balanced. There are notes of malted barley and honey, a touch of spice and fresh fruit salad. The palate is of medium-body with notes of calvados and barley, a touch of honey and mixed peels and notes of oak. The finish is quite long with oak and caramel.
It's fucking good
MY DAD ENJOYED IT.GOOD STUFF. AV RAMPERSAD/TRINIDAD/WEST INDIES.
Got it for under $30, and it is definitely better than a lot of other Scotches in that range. The nose and entry are the weakest points. Nose is a bit rough and sour. Grainy for sure. Entry reminds me of your average cheap blended scotch, but once it's on the tongue there is a wonderful mix of wood, white grapes, vanilla and slight spice. The finish is the best part. Outstanding in fact. Lingers for a very long time with a balanced toffee sweetness and maybe some creamy coffee.
I used to buy several cases of 12 at a time of this exceptional whisky. I look forward to my French friends enjoying it.
its not bad for a blend, i can get the barley.... sugar honey... struggling with a fruit salad? remnants of calvados (unless you've tasted a good one) not to knock a winner; shoot a grouse instead... plenty oak but no pete, sorry peat, no offence!
