The eagerly anticipated Teeling Single Malt Irish Whiskey, made with 100% malt whiskeys. A selection of five wine-cask-finished-whiskeys were used for this release, including Sherry, Port, Madeira, White Burgundy and Cabernet Sauvignon. Exciting, delicious stuff from the Teeling chaps in Dublin.
Intense white grape juiciness on the nose, joined by fresh malt and Rolos, developing into white chocolate the longer it's in the glass.
An elegant expression, this. Well placed fruit, backed up with cinnamon and white pepper. A touch of dried flower petals along the way. Strawberries?
Definitely strawberries, with fresh double cream too! Ace.
Like sliced strawberries left to masseratte in sugar & balsamic viniger then served with Elmlea Double Cream, that oily mouth feel makes u almost wanna chew mmmm.... No wonder this has gone up a fiver since its release a short while ago. Marked against Redbreast 12 (yes I kno that its pot stilled but I think the closest 1 taste/price wise) its - Less smooth & slighy spicier. Less sweet bailies cream but more cornflakes with honey. Overall its way more intresting once u get past initial kick. This is 1 I will revisit b4 the original batch runs out.
Some people complain that Irish whiskies, while usually smoother than their Scottish counterparts, are not as complex and even "boring" (gasp!) Those people need to try this bad boy - there's plenty going on here. Non-chill filtered. Five different cask varieties. No wonder it won awards.
It's good, but nothing to write home about. I wouldn't buy a bottle for 50 EUR, too expensive for what it is. Nose, taste and finish are common. I will forget this whiskey tomorrow.
We first tried this at the new Teelings Distillery in Dublin a few weeks ago...right after meeting John Teeling, the distillery owner's father. A little different than the pot stills we came to know and love while in Ireland, but among the best Irish we can find here in the U.S. And if you haven't tried the Teelings 21 Silver Edition, find it; pricey but oh, so fantastic. Can't wait to visit Teelings again on our next trip to the Emerald Isle.
This is a great whiskey. Very fruity notes and a lovely smooth finish. If you enjoy this then I would recommend Green Spot. Similar flavours but with a smooth finish (and cheaper!)
