The eagerly anticipated Teeling Single Malt Irish Whiskey, made with 100% malt whiskeys. A selection of five wine-cask-finished-whiskeys were used for this release, including Sherry, Port, Madeira, White Burgundy and Cabernet Sauvignon. Exciting, delicious stuff from the Teeling chaps in Dublin.
Intense white grape juiciness on the nose, joined by fresh malt and Rolos, developing into white chocolate the longer it's in the glass.
An elegant expression, this. Well placed fruit, backed up with cinnamon and white pepper. A touch of dried flower petals along the way. Strawberries?
Definitely strawberries, with fresh double cream too! Ace.
I find the nose quite enjoyable. It's fruity and smooth. But then comes the taste... unfortunately it's thin and disappointing. And I recommand you do not add water... otherwise you will definitely lose this malt. There are better choices for the price tag.
I just tried it. I have to say, because of so many good reviews I am a but disappointed. It is not good, maximum ok. Mine is bottled 11/2017, maybe this makes a difference?
Superior single malt. Finished in FIVE casks and you can tell. My ‘whiskey journey' started with this as the obvious pick of the crop of a trio tasting in Dublin Airport. There's not much to best this under €75 other than Brabazon bottling also by Teeling.
Great stuff, but not sophisticated enough to justify the price tag.
I happened to be gifted a bottle of this lovely whiskey having previously tasted just the Teeling Small Batch which incidentally I was not at all a fan of. Teeling's single malt however is a different story. A very refined and classy Irish single malt offering great complexity. The wine cask influence is very prevalent - although I do not see it noted here I get allot of the fresh and vibrant zesty notes of a Chardonnay or a Sauvignon Blanc. Pear drops, strawberries and honey all come to mind. For the price you cannot fail here. Yes it is another NAS Irish whiskey but at 46% and non-chill filtered kudos have to go to Teeling here for producing a very satisfying and approachable dram
