The eagerly anticipated Teeling Single Malt Irish Whiskey, made with 100% malt whiskeys. A selection of five wine-cask-finished-whiskeys were used for this release, including Sherry, Port, Madeira, White Burgundy and Cabernet Sauvignon. Exciting, delicious stuff from the Teeling chaps in Dublin.
Intense white grape juiciness on the nose, joined by fresh malt and Rolos, developing into white chocolate the longer it's in the glass.
An elegant expression, this. Well placed fruit, backed up with cinnamon and white pepper. A touch of dried flower petals along the way. Strawberries?
Definitely strawberries, with fresh double cream too! Ace.
Tried first the Teeling Small Batch, this Single Malt is hands down the winner. Also better than Hyde Rum cask (which is exceptional) and also the Bushmills 10 year old single Malt. This is the best Irish whiskey I have ever tried.
This is a lovely fruity and surprising Irish whiskey that does benefit from time to open up a bit. I found the nose went from citrus astringent to mellow sweetness, the palate is both fruity and spicy at once and I agree with the note of strawberry which lingers into the finish and on the tongue. A keeper, another dessert whiskey for the cabinet.
That is definitely an Irish whisky but not boring as could be a mere Jameson. Besides I'm quite happy that for once I was fully able to find the same tastes as MoM so I confirm, you need to focus but yes there is a hint of strawberry on the palate and when you swallow, after 2 seconds you find the strawberry and indeed the cream. A nice dram.
I have drunk many whiskies in my time 10 year old 12,14,even the royal salute but Teeling has got me hooked line and sinker I don't think I will ever leave it
I made the switch over to whiskey from rum recently, after trying a whiskey called Writer's Tears at Garryowen's Pub in Gettysburg, PA (the best Irish pub in America). It was like nothing I've ever had. I purchased my first bottle of bourbon whiskey at a cost of $36 from a NY distillery and did not like it. I knew of Teelings and Tyconnell and decided to do a little research. I liked what I had read about Teeling's Single Malt so I bought it at $66 USD. It was exactly what I had in mind. I knew that if I wanted a whiskey of good quality, I needed to get it from the country that made it famous. Irish Wiskey and Kentucky bourbon whiskey are so different. I just hope I can hang on to this expensive bottle for longer than the week, haha.
