Teaninich
Scotland
Single Malt
When word reached MoM Towers that Diageo's 2017 Special Releases would include a Teaninich expression, we were near-aghast with anticipation. Official Teaninich bottlings just don't exist (outside of that one Flora and Fauna bottling), which is a crying shame as the independent efforts are quite sublime. This one doesn't disappoint: the 17 year old liquid is from refill American oak hogsheads and sherry butts, both filled in 1999, and the resulting candied sweet spice is a delight. Fun fact: the Teaninich distillery uses an unusual mash filter press instead of a mash tun in production.
Vanilla, barley and pleasant waxy character. A little water reveals citrus zest (and orange jelly), melba toast and melon notes.
More floral with orchard fruit, some stalky notes and lemon tea. Fizzy apple sweets too.
Fresh peach skin and gentle oak.
Wow this hit every note from start to finish zesty on the nose, warm and fruitful on the way down only to come slowly back up like an ancient volcano reawakening...
