This 13-year-old Teaninich from an American oak hogshead shows the Highland distillery at its most charming. It’s sweet, bright and effortlessly drinkable, balancing citrus and soft fruit with floral honey and a creamy, almost confectionary edge. Whether poured neat, served over ice or built into a Highball with ginger ale, it’s a whisky that sparkles.
Initially soft with inviting icing sugar, citrus peels and strawberry laces, the nose becomes remarkably complex with the arrival of dusty library book, hay, floral honey and latte notes. There’s a maltiness too, along with boiled sweets, pear, latte, and a slightly burnt biscuit base.
Red cherry builds alongside milk chocolate, raspberry coulis and strawberries and cream. The sweetness continues with ice cream wafer, tiramisu, Eton Mess and jam roly poly pudding, with cocoa nibs. Well-done toast adds a pleasant bass note.
Long with lingering dessert notes, plus more hay and spicy oak.
