Master of Malt
"Ah, traditional whisky making in the Highlands of Scotland, it all begins with a ma... what no mash tun? Colour me interested! And at this bargain price, for a single cask of this no-mash-tun-naked-as-it-came-but-10-years-later-poor-man's-Clynelish, I AM IN!!!" That's what our Head of Whisky, Sam Simmons has to say about this marvellous single malt from Teaninich, a distillery that unusually uses a special hammer mill and mash filter instead of a traditional mill and mash tun. Distilled in March 2014, the whisky spent a decade in a single refill hogshead, yielding 603 bottles when we dumped it in October 2024 for our Master of Malt Single Cask collection. Behold this beauty, without added colour or chill filtration.

Apple crumble, orange peels, vanilla custard, and buttery barley are joined by notes of nutty meringue, spiced biscuits, and clotted cream.
Soft, creamy layers of vanilla lead the way, with a delicate dusting of nutmeg in tow. Juicy notes of fresh peaches and apricots follow, joined by mellow oak and a touch of gingerbread.
Sweet stone fruits, cooked apples, malt loaf, and a hint of rice pudding linger alongside oaken vanilla and gentle baking spices.
Since buying a beautiful 13 Yr old Teaninich PX Sherry cask and loving it, I have been buying many of this distilleries offerings, and I must say they never fail to delight. This one too. I'm not good at describing nose, palate etc, but you won't be disappointed. I will be buying more.
Me and my mate loved this bottle for how easy it is to drink, anyone who’s just getting into whisky or doesn’t like whisky will happily drink most things by Teaninich. Only thing that brings it down slightly is the fact that it’s non chill filtered at 40% alcohol so it’s pretty cloudy (full disclosure that actually makes it taste better). Feels wrong but tastes so right ?? And for 35 quid it’s spot on.
