Tamnavulin
Scotland
Single Malt
A terrific Tamnavulin, showing off the distillery's skills at using interesting cask finishes for its fab single malt Scotch whisky. This time, it's red wine! The whisky is initially aged in American oak barrels, but before it gets bottled, it enjoys a stay in French Cabernet Sauvignon wine casks, imparting a whole heap of warming dark fruit and sweet spice notes. We reckon this will make for an ace autumnal dram.
Marmalade on toast, stewed berries, nutty malt leading into warm vanilla.
Damson jam, almond flakes, liquorice, cinnamon, a hint of Turkish delight floral richness.
Ginger, strawberry, caramel, and dates.
Disappointed- wine notes on the nose and a nice smooth finish some while later but I wouldn’t buy it myself. Would prefer a good red and a glass of decent “regular” grain whisky to be honest. Being on a decent malt
This whisky is currently on sale for £22 in my local shop, what great value that offers. For a non-age statement whisky is was surprisingly smooth, with rich flavours. Very easy on the nose and even better on the tongue!
Disgusting yuk ! This is a whisky that can’t decide wether it wants to be a whisky or a wind but no in between. I love cask finished whisky with wines but this stuff is very very strong wine flavours and smells and I don’t think the style of wine finish goes well with the whisky. To me it’s like if you got a whisky then got some Pinot Noir wine and then put 50% wine and 50% whisky in a glass mixed it and called it a PN Wine finish whisky. It’s just to strong and over powers the delicate flavours of the whisky making and it’s clawing on the tongue and gets pretty nasty pretty quick. My opinion is stay away from this expression it’s over powered and claws the mouth. Yuk.
This Red Wine Cask Edition is Great. It is Smooth and Rich with a great Taste and is super value for money.I have tasted more expensive malts but this takes some beating for the price. The standard Tamnavuliun Sherry cask is great but this is for Me better.A Great Whisky.
Really fruity notes of poached pear and apple orchard along with red berries and damson jam on the palate . Long lasting on the finish also . Be good as an aperitif before a meal .
