Well-sherried single malt from the Tamdhu distillery, aged for a decade in sherry oak casks. As if that wasn't quite wonderful enough, this has been presented in a delightfully retro-styled bottle. Expect a litany of "Ooooh" and "Ahhhh" noises when you whack this on the table after a good meal.
Dried orange peel, red wine, pecan and raspberry jam.
Soft red fruit followed by brown sugar and spicy clove. A touch of chocolate-covered Brazil nut.
Crystallised ginger, cacao and juicy blackcurrant.
Pound-for-pound this is the best whisky I've come across. It's smooth, easy and approachable. I get vanilla, a hint of sherry fruit and a rich, pleasing finish. Sure, there may be better malts out there. But not for under £35.
On a dollar per delight basis, this has to be the best Speyside single malt. Absolutely true to the Speyside style. Malty, sherried wood, vanilla and honey with a very long finish. Not even the slightest taste of tar.
I try to experiment with scotch from time to time and grab few unknown bottles from my local liquor store. This was in my cabinet for a while as rather dull bottle did not inspire me to give it a taste. Well one day I did. Boy, was I surprised! What a smooth, fruity sipping dram!
This great whisky and dark chocolate... a combination to kill for. It's price is a bargain.
Tamdhu 10y: colour deep amber (natural). Smell pleasant, sweet, light, caramel. On the palate butter, the body is medium intense wave, smooth, rich. Aftertaste is long, sweet. The best marriage of single malt and sherry.
