    Distillery/Brand

    Talisker

    Talisker Skye

Talisker Skye was introduced in early 2015, named after the beautiful island on which the distillery resides. This expression brings with it a more well-rounded and sweet flavour profile packed with fresh citrus, sweet smoke, peppery spice and traditional Talisker maritime notes.

Talisker Skye is matured in a combination of refill and toasted American oak casks, with a slightly higher proportion of toasted casks. Talisker Skye whisky is perfect for those who perhaps find the classic Talisker flavour profile a bit too much, not to say that Talisker fans won't enjoy it too.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Sweet stuff, toffees and vanilla ice cream up front, almost grain-like. Becomes increasingly honeyed. There's a little coastal influence here too, just hints of a sweet Caol Ila perhaps, with very restrained smoke.

    Palate

Honeyed toasted oak, sappy wood, only a little pepper and smoke, apple turnovers and hints of lemon and lime Opal Fruits. Fennel seeds.

    Finish

Drying and slightly less sweet, hints of spice and smoke.

    Overall

A more approachable, sweet Talisker. 'The Isle of Skye in June'.

    There’s no accounting for tastes

I have been a fan of Talisker whiskies for nearly 60 years, and still have a couple of bottles of the 1991 Distillers Edition in my cellar. I picked up a miniature of Skye in an airport duty-free early this year, and sampled it yesterday. I found it very pleasant and smooth, peaty and not harsh. Must be genetic.

My go - to single malt

Lightly peated and therefore not overpowering smokiness. I have settled on this one .

    Far to sweet.

I really like the core range Talisker 10 and Storm and assumed the Sky would be the same, boy was I wrong. It's sweet beyond belief but not a nice balanced sweetness you get off sherry casks but a clawing fake sugar sweetness. Even the higher ABV can't help this one. On the plus side the peat packed a good punch but that's about it.

    Not my cup of whisky

Not my taste. Bought by mistake

    Thoroughly enjoyable. Warm. Good staying-power.

Peat and pepper, some nice acidity providing a sweet fruity note, very pleasant and long finish. Lingering mouth-watering feel. A teaspoon of water in a generous dram, and a few minutes rest, really opens it up. The fruit comes to the fore, the smoke is tamed, but the peppery bite and finish remains. Fantastic bottle for under £40. Just fantastic.
