Initially launched for travel retail, Talisker Neist Point is named after Skye's most westerly point with the lighthouse depicted on the fold out box. It's a no age statement release that's said to use some of their "finest, rare casks that have been left to rest longer" alongside younger whiskies to create the desired flavour experience.
Caramel, toasted sweet spices, vanilla and, as with many of the newer Taliskers, definite smoke.
More of the same on the palate, which is no bad thing, with pear drops and fennel seed welcome additions.
Sweet smoke, sweet spice, slightly drying. Very long.
Very good!
I disagree with the first reviewer rather strongly. It may not have an age statement, but the flavor is perhaps the most complex and well-balanced Talisker I have tasted. Less of some of the traditional distillery flavors such as saltiness, but it has a nice soft fruit flavor and a rich spiciness. This one speaks softly and for a long time, for savoring.
Full of flavor and smooth, a very drinkable dram.
Not what you want from a Talisker. Too young by far, you notice the lack of maturation on both nose and palate. I was extremely underwhelmed.
