Originally released for the Travel Retail market, Talisker's Dark Storm is matured in heavily charred oak casks, imparting yet more smoke and spice to the already intensely smoky whisky. A fantastic release from the distillery on the Isle of Skye.
Smoky bacon, black pepper and red chili, dressed with a touch of orchard fruit and golden malt.
Huge oak influence, with a big burst of smoke on palate entry. Beyond that, though, you find red fruit, citrus and fresh honey.
A very, very long finish, peppered with honey-roasted nuts.

Tried this in London and was won over by the brilliance of it not being like everything else out there. Warms to the core, nothing fancy, but very tasty. I will buy this again and again.
As a whisky drinker Talisker is a deep love of mine, in fact it brought me and my girlfriend closer! When I fist tasted this malt, I wasn't a fan and felt disappointed. A couple of months ago I decided to try it again, and I felt something different. It isn't complex and I'll admit it lacks the Talisker edge, but I find something delightfully tasteful in this whisky. The charred cask provided another breath into our ever growing Scotch industry.
Smoky, you get it at a nice price at travel retail ( at least I did ;) ) , and it is obviously a Talisker. Compared to a Talisker 10 I think it is different, but quite Ok. Not really bad. It is a modern no age statement whisky, showing good taste design but lacking depth. Even compared to the 10 year. Ddint talk about the 18 year here, which plays in a different league, even is a completely different game. Dont buy NAS! Ok, Talisker, you missed to produce enough good stuff the last 20 years. You want market share and revenue now. My opinion: better stick to quality, wait a few years and then harvest! No, in fact if you love Talisker and love whisky this is not the way to go.
I absolutely adore Talisker 10 - probably my favourite - but this lacks the depth, complexity and balance. There's also the overpowering fiery burnt oak, borderline harsh - in the middle. Perhaps my love of the 10 spoiled this one for me ?
I've always liked Talisker 10 yo. but this is one unbalanced whisky - 100% bs from Talisker. why are they ruining their name is beyond me. release it as a younger whisky in the same vein as the 10 year old - even a 5 year old Talisker would be better if it was un chillfiltered with no colouring added. it may be feisty but not unbalanced. see the light stay away from dark storm
