Originally released for the Travel Retail market, Talisker's Dark Storm is matured in heavily charred oak casks, imparting yet more smoke and spice to the already intensely smoky whisky. A fantastic release from the distillery on the Isle of Skye.
Smoky bacon, black pepper and red chili, dressed with a touch of orchard fruit and golden malt.
Huge oak influence, with a big burst of smoke on palate entry. Beyond that, though, you find red fruit, citrus and fresh honey.
A very, very long finish, peppered with honey-roasted nuts.
Moo-ho-haah! A monster is coming in a dark storm... My wife bought it at Gatwick. Lucky me... Nose: Smoky bacon, ok, pepper and light hints of oranges. Sweet fruit. Palate: Huge oak influence and a wave of smoke. Fruit, oranges, honey. Finish: Pepper. Very long. Sweet honey-roasted nuts, hints of smoke. More pepper. A small teaspoon of water opens more of the fruity stuff, the oranges, and the whisky becomes smoother and sweeter. I also find some metallic hints of a younger whisky, maybe 6-7 years if I should guess. Maybe... Wow... What a tasteful, delicious dram. The most smoky Talisker I've tasted. Very good! But... I don't want any NAS product to replace the Talisker 10 Year Old. Traditions and pride, and costumers (!), are very important for every whisky distillery.
I wasn't sure about this whiskey when i bought it but after a few drinks it has definitely grown on me and is great for a NAS. On the palate, an oakiness that changes quickly to mmokiness, peat, a chilli sort of spiciness that bites the tongue, then, saltiness and iodine like you were at the seaside and then, a fleeting sweetness (dark fruits? honey?). A NAS done right in my books.
truly amazing and spicey talisker whiskey.
absolutely delicious whisky. love the long finish and the tingle of the pepperiness. you can really taste the smoky peat from it too. a classic
A lovely dram with a delicious touch of fruit to go with the Talisker pepper
