Originally released for the Travel Retail market, Talisker's Dark Storm is matured in heavily charred oak casks, imparting yet more smoke and spice to the already intensely smoky whisky. A fantastic release from the distillery on the Isle of Skye.
Smoky bacon, black pepper and red chili, dressed with a touch of orchard fruit and golden malt.
Huge oak influence, with a big burst of smoke on palate entry. Beyond that, though, you find red fruit, citrus and fresh honey.
A very, very long finish, peppered with honey-roasted nuts.
Terrific for those that look for a good place to start wih smokey malts. Someone compared it To Lagsbulin 16, but I think this is a frendlier piece, apealing to those who like oak as well as peat and iodine. Highly recommended.
The best of all Taliskers! I have tried scores of scotches, and at least 4 Talisker whiskys including 20 year old and Dark Storm is clearly the best.
I've always been pulled towards smoky, peaty tasting whiskeys. This was a brilliant experience to add, it was truly "something else" when the character given by the barrels came out. Though I don't enjoy alcohol when I'm in the woods, this took me mentally beside a campfire, so when I don't have time to travel, I can timetravel. ;)
Its very strong tasting... but has a unique characteristic which pulls you.
I stumbled across this in duty free and have always loved Talisker but prefer Islay malts. Very smoky and peaty with lots of pepper and chilli but lots of honey and dried fruit and nuts flavour. A little harsh so dash of water suggested but amazing lingering flavour that just gets better and salty taste kicks in. Doesn't send me into rapture like Laphroaig 18yo as disappointing nose but great mouth feel and really lingers
