Talisker's home on the Isle of Skye sits on the line of latitude 57° North, hence the name of this bold single malt, bottled at a weighty 57% ABV.
This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!
A buddy of mine gave me his last glass of this stuff and it was the best scotch I ever had. Unfortunately while looking for my cigar lighter I accidentally kicked the glass into the fire which erupted in a blaze of awesomeness that lit up my back yard. Regardless even though cut short it was very good and I highly recommend.
I was fortunate enough to pick up a bottle of this for £42.50 (£20 under the rrp, wahoo!). Cracking malt this, absolutely a Talisker, so you know what you are getting. Thick mouthfeel with a sweetness in there somewhere and dairy (think cream/butter). Pepper kick on the back and nice long finish, a very well balanced dram. Worth it at full price, let alone the bargin I picked this up for. Would buy again.
This is as good as the Talisker 10 in my opinion - despite the strength, it's actually gentler on the nose when sampled neat, but it becomes a peaty bruiser with a touch of water. It's a bit like getting 2 whiskies for the price of 1.
I wouldn't go so far as to use the internet to insult someone's intellect but it is definitely better than 1 1/2. With one or drops of water, it has an extremely bold, complex, daring flavour and a most pleasing length which allows the different tastes to develop on the pallet. Worth getting & a favorite of mine.
Whoever rated this 1 1/2 stars is a moron. This is one of the finest malts to come in at a very reasonable price point I've tasted.
