Talisker 43 Year Old - Xpedition Oak

Here's something really special from the tremendous Talisker on the isle of Skye. It's the distillery's oldest release to date! Talisker 43 Year Old Xpedition Oak is a phenomenally well-aged single malt, showing off all the wonderful characteristics that we've come to expect from the distillery, including its distinctive sea spray elements. Intriguingly, this expression was finished in casks featuring staves that endured quite a journey. Adventurer James Aiken took the staves on a 3,264 mile journey across the Atlantic aboard his boat, The Oaken Yarn, after which they returned to Scotland to become casks and finish this very expression. 1,830 bottles of Talisker 43 Year Old Xpedition Oak were released.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose

Vanilla, cooked apple and waxy aromas lead when you first take a sniff. There’s a mellow smokiness swirling around beneath with notes of bacon, varnish and that characteristic Talisker saline quality.

Palate

Black pepper and chilli dance on the tongue, and then they’re overtaken by a creaminess. There’s a little custard, white peaches and that waxy character again. The smokiness is there in the background but it’s very restrained. That creaminess lingers and is joined by salty maritime notes.

Finish

Very long and mellow, the texture taking on a little marzipan with a crackle of black pepper.
