A 27-year-old Talisker distilled in 1985 and matured in refill American oak casks before being bottled at cask strength. Only 3,000 numbered bottles were released as part of Diageo's Special Releases for 2013.

Treacle and cornflakes become oats with cream and jam, then with golden syrup.
Brine, more treacle, tropical fruit, some engine oil, gently warming without characteristic pepperiness.
Smoke that’s been hiding just below the surface pokes its head above the parapet for a satisfying finish.
A definite contender for best dram from a great bunch of Special Releases this year.
