Talisker 10 year old single malt is a classic Island whisky from the Isle of Skye. Aged for a minimum of 10 years in American oak casks, this welcome member of Diageo's Classic Malts series has been recognised numerous times for its excellence. Immensely satisfying stuff, with whiffs of warm peat blending with coastal air, balanced by orchard fruit and juicy barley. A spectacular after dinner dram.
It was an Editor's Choice at Whisky Magazine, a gold medal winner at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2017 and was awarded 'Best Islands Single Malt' at the 2017 World Whiskies Awards.
A fresh and fragrant nose. Through thick, pungent smoke comes sweet pear and apple peels, with pinches of maritime salt from kippers, seaweed.
It's a bonfire of peat crackling with black pepper, with a touch of brine and dry barley. A welcome delivery of orchard fruit provides a delicate and beautiful balance.
In a long finish, bonfire embers toast malt and crystallise a sugary underlay.
It's so very, very good. The perfectly balanced smokey seaside taste. Just enough of everything. I love it. £30 a bottle when on offer, amazing value.
Peppery, fruity, bold and beautiful flavours that leave me savouring every drop. Have tried a lot of different whiskies over the past year (proved to be the best way of getting through lockdown) and this is my favourite. Best ‘supermarket’ whisky out there.
I cannot claim to have tasted the most expensive of whiskeys, but I can say with confidence that this is one of if not the best available in its price range. Smokey but not over the top; the smoke does not define the flavour. The salt and pepper contribute to its depth, resulting in a sensory experience that can only be described as tasty.
More depth than many 12 and even 15 year olds. Delicate peat, not so intense smoke, great sweetness and light fruitiness followed by a spray of sea salt. One of my favorites and worth every penny.
My favourite of the 6 Classics, the extra punch of black pepper in the finish compared with the more subtle Oban 14 is what does it. Smokey Sweet on the nose, with that flowering heather by the sea thing going on. More smoke and sweetness, heather and sea on the palette. Sometimes the sweetness is fruity like pears other times it is less distinct in flavour, but still there to balance the oaky fire, then that black pepper, malt and alcohol finish's everything off. The sweetness can be tasted on the lips afterwards while the black pepper and malt linger with the smoke on the pallet.
