Talisker 10 year old single malt is a classic Island whisky from the Isle of Skye. Aged for a minimum of 10 years in American oak casks, this welcome member of Diageo's Classic Malts series has been recognised numerous times for its excellence. Immensely satisfying stuff, with whiffs of warm peat blending with coastal air, balanced by orchard fruit and juicy barley. A spectacular after dinner dram.
It was an Editor's Choice at Whisky Magazine, a gold medal winner at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2017 and was awarded 'Best Islands Single Malt' at the 2017 World Whiskies Awards.
A fresh and fragrant nose. Through thick, pungent smoke comes sweet pear and apple peels, with pinches of maritime salt from kippers, seaweed.
It's a bonfire of peat crackling with black pepper, with a touch of brine and dry barley. A welcome delivery of orchard fruit provides a delicate and beautiful balance.
In a long finish, bonfire embers toast malt and crystallise a sugary underlay.
One of my all time favorites, I'm having a dram now to welcome in the New Year. Living in the desert, it reminds me of younger days on the Jersey shore (New Jersey, USA that is...LOL). Lovely maritime nose and flavors meeting summer fruit near a beach bonfire. Take me away.
Had a small dram to accompany a salmon steak. Outstanding.
Talisker 10 has been on my wishlist for a while now and I finally got the chance as my choice for my Thanksgiving scotch this year to try it. Fantastic! Not nearly as smokey as ardbeg 10, reminds me a little bit of oban 14, but this is just a really well balanced scotch that is not going to break the bank. This one will now always have a spot in my homebar.
My favourite whisky. I've compared this directly with the Skye and the Storm and this one wins because it adds more of the sea salt and pepper flavours that make Talisker particularly special. I generally love the peaty smoke of Islay whiskies, but I find that the addition of the maritime quality renders this one superior.
Nice enough. I'm just not a peat whisky drinker. Price is reasonable.
