Strathisla
Scotland
Single Malt
Strathisla 12 Year Old is a fruity and sherry-rich single malt from one of the oldest Scottish distilleries in operation (and a very handsome one at that - the pair of pagodas atop Strathmill make for a very striking image on the horizon). A perfect single malt for people new to the wonders of whisky,as its easy to sip and enjoy the sweet toffee flavour.
Soft oak and hints of candied peel. A little floral character too, with notes of spice and Danish pastries.
Malty core with notes of sultanas and cinnamon pastries. Allspice, cooked apple and mince pies.
Long finish. Very fruity.
A good all-rounder - excellent value for money...
If you like your whisky smooth and mellow this is for you. Make up your own mind. It does it for me.
Had this bought for me for Christmas. Very pleasant, one to give a novice as oppose to someone more well versed. I decided to sacrifice it for a hot toddy one wet chilly January evening. Wow! What a toddy. The cinnamon and spiciness really complements the cloves and lemon juice/peel. Might pick up another bottle as my go to toddy malt. Should be renamed, Strathisla 12 "The Toddy Malt". Love the smell, it tastes quite sweet. I get a bit of fruit in the taste. I preferred it with water as found it a bit hot without. I'm enjoying it but doubt I'd buy another
I don't know what the complaints are about. I am not a novice when it comes to whiskey. Nor do I purport to be some know it all. I usually like strong peaty numbers like Laphroig and Ardbeg. I agree this drop might seem bland to some but I have to say that it is delicious and, having paid £27 for mine at the supermarket, I am very pleased and have just gone and bought another while it's still on offer.
I love that people from the distillery and chivas have come on here and rated this the best whisky since sliced bread. This whisky has a good price point and is pretty unchallanging, and inexperienced malt drinkers will like it, for more experienced drinkers, you may find it bland.
