Strathisla
Scotland
Single Malt
Strathisla 12 Year Old is a fruity and sherry-rich single malt from one of the oldest Scottish distilleries in operation (and a very handsome one at that - the pair of pagodas atop Strathmill make for a very striking image on the horizon). A perfect single malt for people new to the wonders of whisky,as its easy to sip and enjoy the sweet toffee flavour.
Soft oak and hints of candied peel. A little floral character too, with notes of spice and Danish pastries.
Malty core with notes of sultanas and cinnamon pastries. Allspice, cooked apple and mince pies.
Long finish. Very fruity.
A good all-rounder - excellent value for money...
This is a stunning single malt for the price. Toffee and orange peel all the way on the nose. Fruity and floral on the palette with a loooooong finish and sultanas/raisins at the end. Got this for a bargain price and well worth every penny and more.
Like a decent budget wine, it’s full of ripe fruit and pleasant on the palate but maybe lacking the complexity of some higher value brands or bottles. A very nice night cap to dim the day but it doesn’t light the fires that other Malts do.
I was very excited to try this, Chivas is one of my favourite blends. And the Strathisla is hard to find, so it took me a while. I liked it, lots of Sherry but not overwhelming, enough to make it interesting without making me sickly (As opposed to Glendronach 18 Alardice which I can have one dram and then that's it for the night). The closest other whisky I can compare this to is Royal Brackla 16 yo. An excellent single malt.
Smooth and pleasant, a good entry whiskey. But it does lack character, mainly in that it doesn’t leave a lasting taste in the mouth. Quickly drunk, quickly forgotten.
Incredible for the money.
