A Danish rye whisky here from Stauning! It's produced from malted Danish rye and barley, which is entirely floor-malted at the distillery. After it's distilled on open-fired stills, the spicy spirit is then matured in new American oak barrels. The folks at the distillery call it something along the lines of liquid fresh Danish rye bread, which sounds rather good to us...
Rye bread fresh out of the oven is indeed there, with touches of blackberry, peppery oak and menthol.
More forest berries, oaky vanilla and cocoa lead into oily citrus and more spicy oak.
Caramel wafers, ripe stone fruit and chocolate-coated nuts.

The MoM tasting notes are absolutely spot on. The berry note is really interesting as a stand out from the liquid rye bread. The caramel note on the finish really stands out and then makes way. What an amazing achievement, unlike any other rye whiskey I’ve had. In a class all on its own. Worth the £56 I paid.
