We've got our hands on more marvellous single malt Scotch whisky from the superb Springbank Distillery in the Campbeltown region for our very own Single Cask Series! This time, we've managed to get our mitts on a 26 year old expression, distilled back in December 1991 and left to aged in a refill bourbon hogshead until November 2018. Enjoyably savoury stuff - we love it.
Tarry smoke, earthy peat and damp leaves form a core that orange zest, dark honey and ginger in syrup emerge from. There are hints of spicy Jamaican ginger cake, green chilli heat and marzipan underneath with touches of woodsmoke, bitter bark and a little rancio.
Crystallised citrus peels, jammy dark fruits and heather honey, then sweet tobacco, smoked fish and slightly meaty malt, then a little coal smoke and oily walnut. Oak spice and a hint of hickory and burnt brown sugar develop with time.
Lightly smoked with some earthiness as well as mulberry jam and orange peel.
