A spectacular Springbank single malt here, independently bottled by Decadent Drinks in collaboration with Whisky Sponge for the third edition of the Westie Sponge series, celebrating the whiskies of the Western Highlands. Distilled in 1999, this single malt matured in a first-fill sherry butt for 24 years before being bottled at cask strength, in beautiful hand-blown Cognac glass.
This is a particularly powerful and rugged example of Springbank. Very coastal and salty, with a leathery, nutty and almost tarry sherry profile, and then layers of familiar waxiness, mineral oils and soft, background peat smoke underneath. The whole thing is drenched in distillery character and is beautifully evocative of the West Highlands.
