Fans of heavily peated single malts are always happy when Longrow is in town! Matured in a combo of bourbon and sherry casks, this double distilled expression is a classic offering from Campeltown's Springbank distillery.
Salt and a leathery smokiness come to the fore in a maritime combination, like a Harbourmaster's Jacket.
Light and sweet with notes of green grapes and rhubarb, a great contrast to the nose. Then comes a big blast of smoke.
That salty smokiness returns from the nose providing a deeply satisfying ending.
A great entry-level offering from Longrow perfect for Islay fans looking for something a bit different.

I was looking forward to this particular offering from Campbelltown, and while it is an overall decent dram with some really nice subtleties; it is unfortunately overpowered by a strong harshness. This harshness is not really tamed with the addition of water(something I am not a fan of anyways, I prefer my drams neat), and I’ve even tried letting it breath for a week, as has been suggested by others. Sadly what could be a quite nice dram is overwhelmed by the harshness of its presumable youth.
From a neat pour, this dram was initially bright and hot, but soon settled down to a beautifully rugged expression. The nose was slightly herbal at first, with nautical hints to damp leather, wet rope and sea spray. As it opened up, baked apples, wet hay, and a sweet peaty earthiness emerged. The palate is somewhat thin, but smooth and warming. It carries a tart, peat-kissed, nutty maltiness that plays against a bready, buttery biscuit note. The finish is long and slightly drying, with a hint of mint and smoke - a truly wonderful end to a well-rounded Campbeltown dram. Well done!
Very rarely do I get to try a malt from campbeltown and its a damn shame because they make some fantastic whisky. Only other Campbeltown I've had was springbank 10 which I would say is slightly more well rounded than this but this is smoother and peatier. I love how light it is no color added non chill filtered goodness Springbank doesn't mess around when it comes to whisky. Nice peaty salty maybe slightly herbal dram like what an old sailor probably tastes like. Definitely a fan of this. The Sugarbear
I'm a big fan of islay and this one is incredible. I bought it about 25GBP, for this price and for the lovely peaty springbank it is a must have single malt. Big five star for Longrow, if you like peated whiskys and springbank, go get it!
it's awesome! High quality, very nice smokey and peaty! try it at least once in your life
