    Hazelburn 10 Year Old

Part of the Hazelburn core range, this is a 10 year old bottling of Hazelburn single malt Scotch whisky from the Springbank distillery in the Campbeltown region. It is triple distilled, matured in bourbon casks and bottled at 46% ABV.

Hazelburn is one of three styles of whisky produced at Springbank, known for being triple distilled and unpeated, whereas Springbank single malt is distilled two-and-a-half times and is lightly peated, and Longrow single malt is twice distilled and heavily peated.

Toffee apples, fresh honey and fragrant pears. Hints of vanilla.

    Palate

Good mouthfeel paired with bright notes of vanilla and Crunchie bars. More lively fruit notes underneath.

    Finish

Oily and sweet on the finish.

    Overall

Early evening dramming, this one. Relaxed and flavoursome.

    Perplexing

I offered this at a tasting last night, as I am a big fan of Campbeltown whisky and loved the description of this whisky onnthe MOM site. It was nothing at all as described. My first impression was “This is a whisky a man would really enjoy!” (I am a female SMSW lover) due to the serious, meatiness of it. The flavors were perplexing at first, and on the nose I got leather, hazelnuts and beef bouillon. The palate proved even more confusing as I tasted roast beef sandwich. The finish was medium-long and very smooth. A few drops of water brought out the flavors, but no new flavors were evident. It was a decent whisky, but not my cup o’ tea.

    Another gem from Springbank distillery

This whisky ,like everything from Springbank, is spectacular. I have had a hard time getting a bottle of this where I live , it is usually very overpriced and quite scarce but thankfully my local shop got some and sells it reasonably cheap. Definitely the light end of the peat spectrum for this distillery but there's just no way around that leathery, briny , Campbeltown smoke character. It actually reminds me of a less peaty, smoother version of the Springbank 10 year its more focused on the vanilla and fruit notes with that trademark Campbeltown character. Really excellent stuff hope it becomes more available. Cheers! The Sugarbear

    all in one

Delicated and a quality whisky, full of flavour, without lacks, malt and peat(slighty effervescent and chewy). The best whisky I have tasted, best than many other older expressions, characteristic flavour from springbank (without smoke). Well done, natural colour, 10yo, non-chill filtered, triple distilled, malt dried by warm air. Will join Glengoyne 12 in my list of favourites single malts, both pure in style and great whiskys. It doesn't need to be old to be very good. Note, all of this with only 10 years in bourbon cask. Well done Springbank go on!
