Green Spot is a fabulous single pot still whiskey and much loved by the critics. This Irish whiskey has come far from the days when it was only sold in Mitchell's grocer shop in the heart of Dublin, though its flavour profile is still just as robust. The whiskey has matured in a combination of first and second fill bourbon casks as well as sherry casks.
Hints of peppermint, malt, sweet barley, sugary porridge, creamy vanilla, papaya and citrus.
Spicy and soft, gentle bourbon oak, green woods, menthol, potpourri.
Creamy, long finish, vanilla.
What can I say about Green Spot? It's very pleasant, almost too pleasant. Don't get me wrong, it's a real crowd pleaser but just fails to wow me. It's like ordering macaroni cheese in a fine Italian restuarant. You know your going to enjoy it but at the cost of experiencing something more adventurous. I think this is best purchased for someone who likes "safe" well versed cuisine, European summer holidays & bland brick boxes in Hampshire.
Very nice. Sharp fruit with a long vanilla finish. Excellent for the price.
Simply the Best ?
After a wonderful trip to Ireland, I decided to bring back a few bottles of Irish Whiskey I could not purchase in the states (this was in 2014). On the recommendation of the the merchant at the duty free, I bought a bottle of Green Spot and a bottle of Jameson Reserve. I have always been a Jack Daniels drinker, Gentleman Jack to be precise. When I got back, my friends and I tried the Jameson Reserve first. It was very good but definitely not as smooth as the Gentleman. Then the Green Spot. What a smooth, creamy, warm delight! I can't say it will ever completely replace Gentleman Jack. But, Green Spot is the only other whiskey I purchase for personal use.
Great smooth and creamy. Epic value for money
